Why was the Maui Wedding and Event Professionals formed?

Answer:
1. To build a professional trade organization that promotes and supports visitor specific industries including: wedding companies; video and photography; ministers and any other event related company offering services on Maui

2. To guarantee representation, at a state and county level, the interests of the wedding industry. This representation is focused, currently, on beach wedding permits, specifically the state permit program. A decision about the current lawsuit regarding this matter is imminent.

3. To provide meaningful, instructional and inspirational seminars and meetings featuring experts and speakers who deliver. Seminars will be fee-based, meetings will be members-only at no charge. Meetings will be structured to provide useable information about the state of our industry and, only as needed, MWEP reports, financial and otherwise. Meetings will also address the 'Business of Doing Business.' Essentially, solid information on current and evolving tax laws, effective business practices such as bookkeeping, legal issues, email management, insurance issues, computer networking and web design.

4. To build strategic relationships with state and local organizations such as hotel associations, visitor associations, the Chamber of Commerce as well as national trade organizations that complement event related industries in our state. Many of these organizations possess resources and information invaluable to those in our industry.

5. To build n trade organization based on transparency, accountability and reliability. This will be accomplished through careful construction of by-laws, selection of a working board that is fully informed of all aspects of MWEP organizational structure and finances.
